No. The Spanish are the ones credited with finding the potato in the Andes after the conquered the Incas and then bringing it back to Europe. Francis Drake was an English ship captain (later commander) who constantly was attacking the Spanish and was hated by them. He did travel around the world, but he did not discover the potato. Technically speaking, the locals who lived in the Andes are credited with cultivating the potato over 7000 years ago. So the Spanish were late on the discovery.
