How is turmeric powder made?

Turmeric Powder in India is also known as Haldi .Turmeric powder is widely used in Indian Food recipes,Skin Care,as a fabric dye.turmeric powder is beneficial in Alzheimer's disease,cancer,Arthritis & many other diseases.

turmeric powder is made from Rhizomes (root) of the plant.

Ingredients- rhizomes of turmeric 1-2 kg

method-

1. Take the required amount of fresh or stored Rhizomes of turmeric .
2. put your disposable hand gloves to avoid stains. boil rhizomes in a pot for about 30-40 min. or until the color of boiling water changes to yellowish or brownish.
3. let them cool & drain all water .
4. No need to peel outer layer .It will be separated during sieving.
5. dry rhizomes or roots in sun for one week.Root or Rhizome is hard , reduced in size & wrinkled.
6. Break it into small pieces to grind it in a grinder( you can also opt for flour mill in that case there is no need to break them into small pieces.) to make fine yellowish powder.
7. pass through sieve to avoid large pieces & peels.grind large pieces again to get fine powder.
8. store it in a air tight container can be used for 2-3 years.

Yield-

100 - 200 grams of turmeric powder from 1-2 kilograms of turmeric rhizomes (root).
