If the meat stays below room temperature (for instance, if you have thawed it in the refrigerator) and it is quickly put back into the freezer, you can refreeze the meat with little effect on the texture and flavor of the meat. If the meat has been thawed for a day or more, or gets warmer than refrigerator temperature, it is best to cook it and then refreeze.

Is freezer jam safe to eat after being thawed and refrozen?

I was wondering the same thing ... Because I just bought a pint of ice cream at the store, and we had a power outtage from 5:30 pm to 2:00 am ... I seriously doubt they restocked the ice cream ... I'll let you know.

Are shrimps good once they have been unthawed?

I assume you mean thawed - unthawed is refrozen! As long as that was the only time they have been frozen, they will be perfectly good. Most shell food and fish is perfectly good after being frozen, but beware, many supermarket fish/shellfish, have been frozen before being defrosted and put on display. Check the label to be sure.

Why is it bad to refreeze raw chicken meat?

Refreezing meat isn't a good idea. But if you must, the meat should not have been old the first time it was frozen, it should have been thawed under refrigeration and then frozen again shortly after being thawed. Realize that the quality of the meat will be negatively affected. The flavor will likely degrade and the meat will be drier and tougher when cooked.

What happens if previously frozen meat is refrozen thawed cooked eaten?

If you don't notice any funny smells or discoloration prior to cooking the meat, probably nothing. Thawing, storing, then freezing meat multiple times is a great way to not only ruin the flavor of the meat, but to keep bad, rancid, or dangerous meat around longer than you need to. In my experience, perfectly OK meat that has been thawed, then stored in a fridge for a day, and then frozen again almost always is rancid upon its second thawing. Never cook bad meat--its a waste of time, tastes bad and can make you sick!

Can you refreeze a turkey after it has thawed?

You could refreeze a thawed turkey as long as it was thawed in the fridge and has not started to spoil, but there will be loss in quality when you finally do cook it up. It might be better to cook it without all the fixin's, then remove the meat from the bones and package the meat for freezing.

If you thawed frozen walleye in a bag at room temperature for 8 hours and put in refrigerator is it still good?

Anything you take out of the freezer and leave thawed for 8 hours is probably NOT good any more. Putting it back in the fridge won't help.

Can pork sausage be refrozen?

If the garlic sausage was already frozen, it is not recommended to refreeze it once it has thawed. The safest bet would be to cook it and save leftovers in the refrigerator.

Can ground beef that was partially thawed in refrigertor and the refrozen be safe to cook and eat?

Most experts do not recommend refreezing meat that has thawed but there are some conditions under which it can be done with no harmful consequences. I've done it on occasion. I think the reason they flatly discourage it is because so many people would do it even when their handling of the meat is outside the parameters of safety so it's easier to just say "Don't do it". First, the meat MUST be kept cold, even if thawed, the entire time. If it's only partially thawed, that's better. If it's thawed, it should not have been left on the counter to thaw because it would not stay cold. The meat should be wrapped - either in foil, plastic wrap, or a plastic bag. In other words, meat that has been kept wrapped is less likely to be subject to more bacterial contamination than is safely overcome. Of course it should be discarded if there is any "off" odor. Do not ever refreeze any type of meat or poultry that has been thawed and has been at room temperature for a length of time. That's asking for problems. But if it's still cold, it will be okay to refreeze once. The times I've done this is when I have taken something out of the freezer and put it in the refrigerator to thaw, then my husband might suggest going out to dinner or picking up something to bring home. I seldom turn down that kind of offer so that's when I've refrozen what I had thawed. I've never had a problem.
