When canola is ripe, its pods turn a golden yellow color and become firm and dry. The plants typically reach a height of 3 to 5 feet, with slender, elongated pods containing small, round seeds. The leaves may start to turn brown, and the overall appearance of the field can be quite vibrant due to the yellow flowers that bloom before maturation. Ripe canola plants are ready for harvest when the seeds inside the pods are hard and rattle when shaken.
