You must use spring water (not just bottled water)and treat it to keep the Ph and ammonia controlled. Ph imbalances can cause a fish to rub against rocks, etc. which could cause the scratches. If you don't have the supplies to test the water, take a sample to the pet store and they can test it for you, and recommend the proper treatment. Never use tap water-the chlorine will kill them.

The cuts could be from flashing off of objects in the tank. Another reason could be that they were fighting in the tank with another fish. You can use tap water for your tanks as long as you use a dechlorinator. Your local fish store will be using tap water as filling all those tanks will be too expensive to use spring water. I recommend seachems prime as it is super concentrated, so it lasts much longer than other products, but there are many other products that also do the same thing. Make sure that the bottle you use to treat your tank gets rid of chlorine and chloramine.

Do Betta fish eat feeder fish?

Betta's can be a very aggresive fish, especially the males. They may go after smaller slower moving fish that stray into their territory of the tank. If they stress out the fish enough that they kill it they will nibble on it, however Bettas are not a large carnivores and shouldn't be fed feeder fish. In fact, scince most feeders are goldfish (of a sort) the feeder may stress out the betta to the point that it will kill the betta. It is best just to feed a betta high protein flakes. Most pet stores that sell bettas also have food formulated for bettas scince it is such a popular species.

Other than a Betta what kind of fish and how many of each kind of fish can be in a one-gallon tank with an undergravel filter and air pump?

One Gallon? Only a Betta. Most anything that's small enough for a 1g is to active for one. A micro-tank can be absolutely lovely though if you plant it really well, get a rams head snail to keep waste down, and pick out a really pretty Betta.

How many dry food do you feed a betta fish?

It's about total amount, not individual number. A betta's stomach is only slightly larger than its eye, and fits between their head and the long belly fin. Only give them as much as they will completely eat in about 2 minutes.
