In most recipes pineapple chunks can be a suitable substitute for crushed pineapple. If the chunks are too big you could put them in a blender or cut them into smaller pieces.
To efficiently cut a pineapple into chunks, first cut off the top and bottom of the pineapple. Then, stand the pineapple upright and slice off the skin in strips. Next, cut the pineapple into quarters lengthwise and remove the core from each quarter. Finally, slice the pineapple quarters into chunks.
