East European Challah bread either braided (from the Slovenian word for braids) or with a rolled strip of dough on top of the bread ( from the Polish word for pony-tail).

On the latter the kitke is the strip on top, but in South Africa the word kitke is used to mean Challah (braided bread, made with egg, used for Jewish Sabbaths and Holy-days.)
