Ripe fruit is easier to pick because it is prepared to fall from the plant it grows on. When fruit ripens normally it falls off the plant and decays allowing the seeds inside to germinate and grow into another plant. Before the ripen there attachment to the plant is stronger because they still needs the nutrients from the plant.
