Yes and no. Ents began as trees... The first one existed when some of the first Elves to be in Middle Earth desired to bring life to everything sang some song and brought some trees to life. The Ents never forgot this.
However, they are no longer "trees," per say. They are the shepherds of trees, and in the movie, Treebeard takes offense to being called a tree by Pippin.
Note also that they are less treelike in the books than in the movie. They are described as being "man-like or troll-like" in shape. Parts of their bodies are covered in something like bark, but their arms are smooth.
The Ents did not start out as trees. They were created by the Vala Yavanna with Eru's permission, to be guardians of the trees and flora of Middle-earth. The Elves taught them how to speak.
Mainly they live in Fangorn Forest.
Anything from Orcs to Hobbits. Any creature or creation in Middle Earth, is Tolkien's.
No, the whole group are called ents. Treebeard is the name of the individual ent.
Nobody. Nothing represents anything in LotR. As Tolkin himself said, "As for any inner meaning or 'message', it has in the intention of the author none. It is neither allegorical nor topical."
Branches are falling off the trees
Cut the trees, fear no Ents!
The walking, talking tree-like beings in Lord of the Rings are called Ents. If you referred to actual species of trees, aside from real-world trees (some of which have names in Tolkien's languages), there are the Mellyrn (singular Mallorn). The Mallorn tree is the one whose leaves turn golden in autumn and do not fall of until spring, and are most prominenty seen in Lothlórien.
All of the trees that survived the previous season. Deciduous trees only shed their leaves in autumn, but the tree is still there - they don't migrate like ents
They study Ents. They study Ents.
