Most royalty had their pictures painted constantly it was a sign of wealth and influence. It also made you look like a patron to the arts. Elizabeth was also vain, so it may have been a sign of her vanity as well as her wealth.

She was quite ugly and had 'holes' in her face from her make up. So she looked quite bad, but she made the painters make her look better!

What does the ditchley portrait mean?

The Ditchley portrait has many symbols in it. The reason of it being painted was because of Sir Henry Lee, in Ditchley, Oxfordshire. It was painted to commemorate Elizabeth's forgiveness and visit to Sir Henry Lee.Elizabeth used the ditchley portrait to portray that she is a wealthy, able and powerful leader.as she is stood on the map of England this shows that she owns the world and all in it.The portrait is in the style of propaganda. Some of the painting has been cut off from the edges (7.5 cm form each side). The writing on the right has also lots parts but this is what the remainder of it says:The prince of light, the Sonne by whom thin(gs)Of heaven the glorie, and of earthe the (grace?)Hath no such glorie as (...) grace to go (...)Where Correspondencie May have no plac(e)Thunder the Image of that power dev(ine)Which all to nothinge with a word c(...)Is to the earthe when it doth ayre r(...)Of power the Scepter, not of wr(...)This ile of such both grace (...) powerThe boundless ocean (...) em(...)P(...) p(rince?) What does a portrait artist do?

A portrait artist creates an image that shows a comprehensive and usually idealized presentation of a person/personality that seems less like a specific moment in time (like a snapshot/candid photo) and more like the Idea of the person. They work from sessions of sitting with the "subject" (person being painted/photgraphed) or from photos, if the portrait is a painting. A portrait is more of an "official declaration" than a mere document.

What are the examples of personification of the portrait of a lady by khushwant singh?

In "The Portrait of a Lady" by Khushwant Singh, the author personifies the portrait by describing it as having a "kind face that winked and smiled," giving it human-like qualities of warmth and familiarity. The way the portrait is described as "coming alive" when the narrator looks at it also suggests a personification of the painting.

Why people at the Middle Ages had a strange look in portraits?

One of the reasons people in portraits may look strange, or seem uncomfortable or angry is because they were having themselves painted. It's not like getting your picture taken, it took hours to do a portrait. It's understandable if the one being painted got impatient, or bored or angry. They were probably very tired and uncomfortable. Also many people when they got their selves painted wanted to look serious or sophisticated and smart, or had a certain look they wanted to come across so they were often painted deliberately that way. And sometimes it was just the style of the artist.
