he wore a green feathered hat

Robin Hood has been glamorized as wearing a green feathered hat. However, the true Robin Hood wore a head cover similar to that of a chain-mail head cover. Robin's head cover was dyed a dark green using berries and herbs ground up to a pulp and then rubbed into the cover to change it's colour.

Robin Hood's vest was made of stag hid but was not actually dyed green as the head cover. Shirts and pants were made of different material but normally of a poor quality cotton. His boots were made of hid as all boots were at the time.

The "feathered hat" was started after a maiden saw Robin Hood crossing a field to a creek. The feather she saw was actually that from his arrows which appeared to be sticking out of his cap due to the angle she was at when she saw him.

Yes, watch the 1938 film.

As a made up character each interpretation has equal value, in most he wore tights, in some he doesn't, there is no difinative 'Robin Hood must look like this'.
