yes, he said so when they were in the cabin in the woods.
Depends on what book you are talking about. But here are all 3 books & their relationship in them:The Hunger Games: Katniss and Gale are best friends. They go hunting together almost every day. Gale also promises Katniss that if she dies in the arena that he will take care of her family.Catching Fire: Katniss and Gale have a budding romance. (so to speak) :) Katniss tells us the story (through first person narrative) of her first kiss with Gale that happened after she returned from the games. Katniss kisses Gale a second time when he is unconscious after being whipped. Gale comes to for a few seconds after that.Mockingjay: Katniss and Gale are at different points in their relationship throughout the book. At first, Katniss is very proud of Gale when she finds out that he saved almost 900 people from District 12 after it was destroyed by the Capitol. Then, she gets pretty PO'ed at him for different reasons. He told Peeta that Katniss would choose to be with whoever she can't live without, which makes Katniss mad because she thinks that Gale thinks that to Katniss, love is a matter of survival. SPOILER ALERT Gale also kills Prim by setting off bombs in the "hospital" where Prim was helping out. That pretty much destroyed their friendship/romance, even though Gale thought since it was an accident and he said he was sorry, Katniss would forgive him. THAT'S NOT HOW THINGS WORK, GALE!! He then precedes to move to District 2, and that's the end of it for Gale and Katniss.
She replies 'I know' She comments to the reader later how she immediately knew that it was a stupid thing to say.
Gale designed a bomb which would go off once, then people would rush over to help the injured, and it would go off again. During the last day of the battle the rebels used this bomb but made it look like the Capitol were the ones who used it. A group of children were involved in the first attacks and the rebels sent in their own medics to help, one of whom was Primrose Everdeen, Katniss' sister. The second bomb then exploded killing Prim. As Gale was involved in the design of the bomb, Katniss wouldn't ever be able to be with him without being haunted by the fact that he may have killed her sister - and he certainly designed the bomb which did. Gale knows he has lost her because of this and accepts that any chance she had of loving him, is gone. Gale then goes to District 2, while Katniss is sent back to District 12.
It is said in Mockingjay that Gale gets a fancy job in District 2, so he doesn't come back to District 12 with Katniss. It is rumored that he felt guilty about killing Prim, and afterword things wouldn't be the same between him and Katniss, so he went to District 2 to start a new life.
In the first book, Katniss realises that Peeta loves her is at the very end chapter o the 1st book. Although through that book Peeta repeatedly is covering up/ saving Katniss. In the 2nd book Katniss knows that Peeta will volunteer to join her in the quarter quell knowing about howo much he loves her
Gale nicknamed Katniss "Catnip". When they first met, she said her name and he thought she said Catnip, when she really said Katniss.
Similar: Gale hunts food for Katniss and Peeta gave Katniss some bread. They both try to protect her.
Because when the first meet katniss liked him and got choked up and said catnip
Catnip. She whispered her name, and he thought that was what she said. When she corrected him, it became the nick name.
She loves him i guess

Katniss was in the woods, at around 12 years old, and she saw a snare which successfully managed to catch a rabbit (I think there was more than one but that doesn't matter). When she goes out to touch and observe the snare, Gale tells her that "Stealing is punishable by death" and that's how she first meets him. They don't get along well at the start because Katniss said how they haggled over things, but they became a team a few months after I suppose.
there's no reaction. there's no big climax of who katniss chooses, which I think the book really missed on, it just says that gale leaves to go to district 2 but katniss wouldve chosen peeta anyway because katniss said her and gale were too much alike and she didn't need someone else with fire in them, she needed someone like peeta. also, it was a bomb gale made that killed her sister prim and even though he wasn't directly involved in the bombing , katniss just could t look at him the same way. and plus, peetas way sweeter.
