In the first book, Katniss realises that Peeta loves her is at the very end chapter o the 1st book. Although through that book Peeta repeatedly is covering up/ saving Katniss.
In the 2nd book Katniss knows that Peeta will volunteer to join her in the quarter quell knowing about howo much he loves her
She is confused as to weather she actually likes Peeta in the 1st book in the actual games. Then their relationship becomes strained in the 2nd book. Then in the last book towards the end Katniss says something along the lines of " Gale was a fiery person, I realized Peeta was the one I needed." Those aren't exact words but that's the point of what she said.
In the arena, Katniss first realizes that Peeta is trying to protect her and keep her alive in Chapter 14. In this chapter, Katniss releases hacker jackers onto the sleeping Career tributes. They run away to avoid being stung, but soon return in Katniss's hallucination. Peeta then saves her from the Career tributes, telling her to run while he fights them off.
When she tries to strangle him after he confesses that's when.
It affects Katniss because she doesn't know if she has feelings for Peeta. She is confused as to what she thinks of Peeta. Peeta loves her, but she doesn't know if she loves him back.
Okay, first of all, Katniss does not know if she loves Peeta or Gale. Her feelings are really mixed up and she has a hard time making choices. Also, SPOILER ALERT!!! (I may be about to spoil the book for you if you continue reading). If Katniss doesn't look like she is madly in love with Peeta--some of the people in the Capitol aren't falling for it--then President Snow threatens to kill Gale and their families. Katniss and Peeta's relationship is confusing for them because Peeta (and even Katniss, sometimes) can't tell when or whether Katniss' feelings for Peeta are real- or just an act for Snow. Catching Fire really explains that Katniss is not that good with this act. Peeta actually loves Katniss, so it bothers him that Katniss has to act. Still, Katniss finds herself falling in love with Peeta. This is made worse by the fact Peeta says to the capitol audience that Katniss is going to have a baby so if Katniss survives, the capitol is going to be wondering 'So...where's the baby then...?'
Its hard to tell. Depedning on when in the story, she loves either Gale or Peeta... But she ends up with peeta. Katniss says she loves Gale, but shes says he is kindled fire and rage, and she has enough of that, and that's why she picks the messed up Peeta, stung by trackerjackers.
Peeta loves Katniss for real, and wants to protect her. If the careers knew about Katniss' skills, it would be easier for them to know her weaknesses and/or how to kill her. Peeta wants to keep Katniss alive without getting himself killed.
In the first book of the series, Katniss pretends to be in love with Peeta because she hopes to gain the support of sponsors, so she will be sent supplies while in the arena and will be more likely to win. By the end of the trilogy she is as much in love with him as he has always been with her. She starts falling in love with him during the 1st game. It flourishes in the second book and is tested in the 3rd book.
Katniss does not find out in Catching fire, but in the first book, when they are in the cave by the river.
Because Peeta loves Katniss
Yes, she does mean it. She has confused feelings for awhile, but then they get married.
