It will let you trade between Pokemon Gold and Crystal. You just have to make sure you are using two gameboy colours and a gameboy colour link cable.

Certain Pokemon, even Pokemon, have a ribbon that makes it impossible to trade the Pokemon over the GTS. Any Pokemon with a ribbon that shows the "love of a Pokemon" can not be traded. Any Pokemon WITHOUT that ribbon should be able to be traded.BUT IT DOES NOT HAVE A RIBBON!

Right now, April 24th 2010, there are no Pokemon games that come AFTER heart gold and soul silver, in terms of a sequel series. Heartgold and soulsilver, are more based off of the gameboy color game, Pokemon crystal, where they first introduced selection of your gender, and a lot of twinks, that crystal had that Pokemon gold and silver did not.

In Pokemon Crystal I only know of three people who you can trade with. There is a house next to the Pokemon centre in violet city, in that house is a person called Kyle, if you give him a bellsprout he will return with an onix. Then there is a house just outside blackthorn city, near the Ice Path there is a lone girl inside she wants dragonair and will trade a dodrio for it (totally not worth it as you can catch doduo in the first patch of grass you come to when you are sailing to Kanto) At the end there is a fisherman in a house near the lighthouse in Olivine City which wants to trade his voltorb with a krabby...
