There is a technique that some like to use called "scaling". This involves the buyer weighing a booster pack on an extremely sensitive scale. Generally, the heavier the booster pack, the higher chance of an Ultra Rare card contained in there. This is because the gold lettering and the holographic images of the Ultra Rare cards is slightly heavier than Commons or Rares. This can be detected by sensitive scales, allowing the buyer to choose the booster packs with the highest chance of having rare cards.
This is generally looked down upon by others, as a "scaler" decreases the chances of other buyers of getting rarer cards.
