Windsor is the 20thCentury family name of the British Royal Family and was selected as a replacement for a German-sounding name during World War 1. The family itself can trace back to King Alfred and his ancestors, as well as to many other medieval royal and noble personages in Europe, as long as you permit that trace to involve cousins and more distant relationships.

The Anglo-Saxon Chronicle names Sceaf, King of the Angles, as the earliest known patriarch. As for his ancestors, these are supposed to include Noah.
