Although she was known as "Halle" in the doll making world, her proper first name was "Hazel" and the proper spelling of her last name was "Blakeley". She was born in October of 1901 and passed in May of 1981. Her primary career for many years starting in the mid 1950's until she passed was making dolls of historical figures for the Alfred P. Sloan Museum in Flint, Michigan, and were displayed in the Carol Churchill Pierson Children's Gallery. The last doll she made for that museum was of First Lady Rosalynn Carter.

It may mean that the doll is from an early or original production run of that particular doll. Not all dolls have the artist mark so it is not an indication of authenticity nor is it an indication that it is an older doll made by Pleasant Company (vs. the newer dolls by Mattel). My daughter got her Saige doll back in January when she was first released, and it does have the artist mark. However, she has a Just like You doll from a few years back, and it does not have it.

Elmer was a one-of-a-kind doll created by doll artist Michael Langton. The doll was created specially for this movie. Mr. Langton created a limited edition replica around 1998. The edition size was to be 2500 but only about 30 were actually made and sold. The original doll that they did not use in the movie is in a museum in Bellevue Washington, and the unit for the movie remains with Michael Langton. The 25 replicas that were created are sold...but has a few left.
