No he is not. He is One Hundred Percent real and there are many descendants. Johnny Appleseed's real name is Johnny Chapman whose descendants then turned into the Carpenters and I am proud to say I am a direct Descendant.

I am Anna Louise Rowlands Frye. My Grandmother was a Chapman and she lived in Dexter City, Ohio just North of Marietta. I was born in Dexter City. None of the items I've read concerning Johnny even mention Dexter City but there is a beautiful monument to him at that location.
