No he did not die. He has gone on to become an advocate for the spinal injured and for others with disabilities. He completed a wheel chair tour around the world that was called the "Man in Motion Tour" which raised millions of dollars for spinal cord research. Rick Hansen was also part of the torch relay for the 2010 Olympics in British Columbia Canada and was also part of the cauldron lighting at Canada Place Dome in Vancouver during the opening ceremonies.
