The original "Little House on the Prairie" refers to the home of Laura Ingalls Wilder, which is located near Independence, Kansas. This site was part of her family's life in the late 19th century and inspired her beloved series of Children's Books. While the original house no longer exists, the area is commemorated by the "Laura Ingalls Wilder Historic Home and Museum" in nearby Mansfield, Missouri, where she later lived.
