Products are available at home improvement stores that encourage trees to rot. One of these is sodium metabisulfate, commonly known as Stump Out or other brand names. It sells for between $5-10 per bottle. It is sprinkled on the cut tree and encourages it to decompose in about a month.

In "The New Scooby and Scrappy Doo Show" episode "Wedding Bell Boos!", Scooby, Shaggy, Daphne and Scrappy visit Shaggy's parents' house in Plymouth Massachusetts for Shaggy's sister, Maggie's wedding. They might have visited Massachusetts some other time too, but this is one time that I'm aware of.

They went on to form their own production company in 1977 called Ruby-Spears and made some Scooby Doo cartoons too (with permission from H-B).
