"Hardy, I do believe they done at last, m y backbone is shot through" He had been hit by a marksman fifty feet away. The bullet hit his shoulder pierced his lungs and stopped at his backbone. Nelson was carried away by some soldiers and they took him to a surgeon. Nelson requested several times to see Hardy who was on deck supervising the war. Nelson told Hardy to give all of his possessions to his daughter, Emma. After that he said "Kiss me Hardy." Hardy bent down and kissed him on the cheek twice. "God bless you Hardy" said Nelson. By now very weak Nelson started muttering some words. Hardy heard him say "God I have done my duty." Nelsons last words were "God and my country. Nelson was a very high rank in his career which was called Vice Admiral of the White. What people find interesting when Nelson was dying in his last breath he said "Kiss me Hardy."
