General Thomas Gage was the last Royal Governor of Massachusetts and commanded the British forces in America. At a time when calls to secede from Britain echoed throughout the Colonies, General Gage made matters worse by trying to enforce the Coercive Acts. By ordering troops to advance on Concord and seize the weapons of the colonists, he immediately pushed ahead the start of the Revolutionary War.
