The bell of a mellophone typically measures between 10 to 12 inches in diameter. This size allows for a rich, warm sound that is suitable for outdoor performances, similar to a French horn but designed for easier playing in a marching band setting. The bell's size contributes to the mellophone's unique tonal qualities, making it distinct in brass ensembles.
