His caste is washerman (Dhobi).

Sharif a Honorable Name for descendent of Muhammad's Grandson Hasan, it shows the origin of his name "SHARIF" and it's appropriate meaning.

Answer by Noe.Historian:

Quote; The caste of Nawaz Sharif is not 'Dhobi' (washerman) or 'Mochi' (cobbler). Infact, he is a Kashmiri whose ancestors migrated to Amritsar, India and after the creation of Pakistan in 1947, to Lahore, Pakistan. The title, Mian is used by 'Arains' and 'Rajputs' in The Punjab. Most probably, he is an 'Arain' of Kashmiri origin.

Moreover the descendants of Hazrat Imam Hassan (AS), the grandson of Hazrat Muhammad (SAW) are called 'Hassani Sayyad' and not Sharif.

Sharif in Arabic means "Anything / anyone having some sort of 'Sharaf' or honour." In Urdu, it means "Someone who is gentle, modest or pious". Unquote.
