the technical name for a tranformer formed by other TFs combining is a gestalt. Informally, they're known as combiners. These include Devastator, Bruticus, Menasor (Decepticons), and Superion, Defensor, Computron (Autobots)
the one that starred in ROTF (The big multi-colored guy that ate half a pyramind) is the new version of Devastator. I didn't care for him much, but oh well.
