The Magma pool is in Moltara, in the mining area. It is simply a pool of magma that has a guard watching over it.
If the guard is awake, then he will not let you pass. But at a certain time (that time is different for each account), he is asleep.
When he is asleep, you can sneak past and get anyof your Neopets painted Magma, so long as the species and color is compatible.
"The Sleeping Guard is random and it is not the same for every user." - quoted from The Daily Neopets
As in getting into the Magma Pool? There doesn't seem to be a known way to get access into the Magma Pool. However, if you catch the guard asleep, you can get in. For each Neopets account there is a time the guard falls asleep, and once you figure what the one for your account is you can go back once a week and paint your pet magma.

The rainbow pool http://www.neopets.com/pool/ will tell you what colors each neopet can be painted.
There is no spirit paint brush on neopets. You might be thinking of a different brush like the ghost paint brush. For the full list of paint brushes go here: http://www.neopets.com/pool/brushes.phtml

He does not its just a random event. So he can be asleep at anytime that you check if you are lucky.

You can get into the Magma Pool at Moltara, which is directly above Lutari Island and beside Maraqua. Once you reach Moltara, click on the cave on the right side which will lead you to the other part of Moltara. The Magma Pool will be there, but there is a guard guarding it. There are two ways of getting into the Magma Pool:**Note! You can only go into the Magma Pool once every week.**1.) The guard says that you have to be well-versed in the ways of Moltara, which means you have to read a number of Moltara books. The guard will let you in because of that.2.) You wait each hour (sometimes minutes) for the guard to be asleep. The guard is sleeping randomly and at different times for each user. Also, the time could be at a beginning of and hour, or the beginning of a minute. (for example: My Magma Pool time is 3:27pm.)The best thing you can do is refresh every hour and hope he's sleeping. And like I said, the time he is sleeping is totally random.

Magma usually refers to molten rock when it is still underground, and a crater is a cup shaped depression in the surface whether in a volcano or not. If a crater were full of molten rock we'd call it lava. It might be fed by a magma pool below the surface.
A magma chamber.
There is no Magma Paint Brush, as you just have to find your 10-minute window in which the Magma Pool Guard is sleeping so you can sneak past. On extremely rare occasions, the Guard will let you pass even while he is awake. Nobody knows how this is triggered.
If you are talking about the worms in Moltara, you can only retrieve them if you have an Empty Lantern in your inventory. If you don't have it, then when you click on a worm, it should say, "What a cute looking worm. Too bad you have no where to put it." I think. If you collect all 10 worms, you can go into the Cave behind the Magma Pool.
Buy the baby paintbrush and then go to the rainbow pool and paint the desired pet.
