Do Pokemon mate?

They're a bit coy about it, but yes, pokemon mate. All pokemon have an 'egg group' which shows which pokemon it is compatible. For example a Mudkip is part of the 'monster' egg group, as is an Aron, the two are compatible. You leave both pokemon at the daycare centre, and eventually an egg will 'appear' - they don't mention mating, but the baby will be the same species as the mother, and can be born with some of the father's moves, check a list to see which ones they can inherit.

What is egg moves in Pokemon?

Egg moves are moves that can only be learned through breeding. I'll show you an example: let's say you want a Houndour to learn the move Thunder Fang but, of course, you don't know how to get it. This is how you get egg moves.Get the Pokemon that you want it to learn the egg move. It has to be a female Pokemon to produce the same species. In this case: Houndour or Houndoom.Get the other Pokemon that is compatible with breeding with the female Pokemon. This Pokemon has to have the move learned and must be a male Pokemon. Let's use Shinx with Thunder Fang as an example.Put both the female Pokemon and the male Pokemon in the Day-Care and after you obtained the egg and it hatches the family of the female Pokemon, it will have the egg move that it learns from the father. After the egg finally hatches it will be the Pokemon of the earliest form of the mother. Since my example was a Houndour/ Houndoom the new born Pokemon will be a Houndour male or female that knows the egg move Thunder Fang. And that's is what an egg move basically is. You cannot do the complete opposite of this though. Meaning that you can't get a new born Pokemon from the male version with a move from the female.

What is Pokemon egg moves?

They're moves the Pokemon can only learn as an egg. When breeding two Pokemon, the baby will be the species of the female, and have the moves of the father. If you're breeding with a Ditto, the baby will always have the species and moves of the non-Ditto Pokemon.

You must have a female starter. Then, put it in the Day-Care with another Pokemon in its Egg Group(Example: F. TREECKO + M. ROSELIA = TREECKO EGG) You can use this to make Pokemon with special moves called Egg Moves.

This involves your style of training do you: Like defensive Pokemon that can learn various moves if so pick hitmonchan OR Like offensive Pokemon that can learn moves that work well with offense then pick hitmonlee. In the end you can get both simply by breeding.

I know how chain breeding works but how do you know what moves a Pokemon can learn with it beyond the obvious?

Look at www.serebii.net Go into the pokedex section and all moves learnt by levels AND breeding will be listed They asked for "breeding chains", not normal breeding. Serebii is fine and dandy, but I don't think it shows breeding chains. I found only this yesterday when I was looking for breeding chain guides/lists: http://veekun.com/dex/calculators/breeding_chains But I don't know how accurate/up to date it is.

It can breed any pokemon. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- ok this is just a side note on breeding, sometimes the offspring inheirt one parents moves. (i'm NOT the same person who wrote above this message.) when i breed my blaziken with a vulpix, i got a vulpix. **BUT** when i looked at her moves (it was a girl) she knew the move Overheat. but i looked at the mother's (vulpix) moves, she didn't know that move. then i looked at blaziken's moves, and he DID know it! their daughter had inheirited his move! i was shocked!! (btw i found this out 15 minutes ago lol)

Yes, moves taught by Move Tutor in Pokémon Pearl can be passed down via Pokémon breeding however the Pokémon needs to be capable of knowing the move via TM, HM or Pokémon breeding otherwise the move will not be able to be passed down to the Pokémon offspring.

What is a draw back to breeding Pokemon?

One draw back is you may not always get the Pokemon to learn the moves you want. While Pokemon are in the day the day care center they will level but will not evolve. Also they will still learn moves as they level but what moves they keep and which ones they forget you can't decide as long as they are in the day care center. The moves the Pokemon forget is usually either top to bottom or oldest to newest moves. Anyway the point is they don't evolve and they may forget moves you wanted them too keep so keep that in mind when breeding. Also breeding the female and male version of the same Pokemon does not always have the highest probability of producing an egg but generally even if you wait awhile it usually happens. For example I put my male and female Seadra in the day care center and the daycare man told me "they seem to get along.." Which means there is only a somewhat likely chance that they will produce an egg which means it will take a little longer than if they were extremely likely. Of course even with "not very likely" your Pokemon can still produce an egg. But its like wating for berries to grow..It could take a day or maybe more.
