Elizabeth I (also known as: Gloriana, the Virgin Queen, Good Queen Bess, etc.), was known for many things. First off, she was the first Queen in British history to rule the kingdom alone, and for 45 years mind you :P. This period of time was named the "Golden Age". Elizabeth was the daughter of Henry VIII and his infamous second wife, Anne Boleyn. Elizabeth was never expected to inherit the throne of England, as she was 3rd in line after the death of her father. However, she became Queen at 25, and ruled into her 70th year. At the beginning of her reign she established a "Book of Common Prayer". After the English Church separated from Rome during Henry VIII reign, the old religion (Catholicism) and the new religion (Protestantism), created quite a disturbance in England that affected all classes of English society. Elizabeth saw a way to resolve, or at least reduce the issue, by creating a "Book of Common Prayer". She lead England to victory, when they defeated the Spanish Armada in 1588. She had a fond love for exploration, and helped to fund many voyages, especially that of Sir Walter Raleigh, and Sir Frances Drake. She loved the theater, and she encouraged young playwrights such as William Shakespeare, and Christopher Marlowe. That is just a brief summary of what Elizabeth I is known for :)

Elizabeth was a good horse rider, but she wasn't allowed to horseride alot while in captivity at the tower. She was also a keen musician, apparently, she was playing the harpsichord when she got the news that Philipp II of Spain was coming to England.
