What was queen Elizabeth's problems during her reign?

This in turn eventually lead to the declaration of war by Spain and the Spanish Armada. Had the Armarda been sucessful then it is likely that Queen Elizabeth the First would have been executed and England subject to Spanish rule.

Having once been a favourite of Elizabeth, The ambitious Duke of Essex became disgruntled at what he claimed were conspirators in the palace who were lying to the Queen. With the some support he made an attempt to attack the palace in a coup d'etat. This was violently put down by the armed guard of the palace and lead to the arrest and subsequent beheading of the Duke.
