Bram Stoker wrote novel Dracula. But, history recognizes Vlad Tepes, Romanian ruler from 16th century. His nickname was Vlad The Impaler, also Dracula. His role was to release Romania (during that period Hungary) from Otoman Empire. Word Dracula comes from the word dracul which means dragon. Vlad was born in Sigishoara (today Romanian teritory), and after he was killed he has been buried in monastery on lake Snagov. Although history recognizes him as brutal ruler, he is national hero in Romania.
