Good Point. I have absolutely no idea.
If your talking about his physical appearance, it didn't change. At the end of the last book (Crocodile Tears) Alex turned 15. However, Alex is described to show pain and knowledge in his eyes way beyond his years. Basically, he changed from being a simple English schoolboy to a teen age spy who witnessed people being killed or doing horrible things. Also, although Alex has never directly killed anyone he was certainly responsible for several bad guys' deaths. All of that has taken a toll on Alex. You understand better the way Alex has changed if you read the books. It's hard to describe how much he changed throughout 7 books in just a couple sentences. And hey, the series is not over. Horowitz said on his website that he planed on making more Alex Rider books.
You don't have to start with the first book, but it would help you understand what is happening in the rest of the books especially since J.K. Rowling hid clues throughout the series.
Seeing as Brotherhood is the newer series (or the title of the thirteenth disk in the old one), it is based completely off of the manga series written by Arakawa Hiromu. Being based off of the books was the original intention of the older series, but there came a point when its creators were forced to deter from the books' plotline. This was because at the time of its creation, the series had no more books from Arakawa-sensei to base their own plotline off of. Hence, the forked pathway. In the beginning, there are many similarities between the two series, but eventually the older one becomes somewhat hard to believe in its improvised plot twists. I believe it breaks off the path of Arakawa-sensei's intended plot somewhere around the "Psiren Case." There are a number of characters that appear in Brotherhood, but not in the original series, and vice versa. Lin, and Lanfan are two examples.
There 418 pages of the novel. 13 pages at the start, displaying copyrights, etc. 3 pages of acknowledgements 12 pages of more books by Anthony horowitz 446 pages total
Season 1 was based on book 1, season 2 was based on book 2 and season 3 covered the first half of book 3. Many changes were made for the TV adaptations so it might be worth reading the books anyway. 'Ros' was in all three seasons, but never existed in the books, she was an amalgamation of a few different characters. Jaime's hand was cut off by a man called Locke in the show, but by Virgo Hoat in the novels, etc.
Alex Rider books. they are great. I agree, but The Specialists series by Shannon Greenland has a female main character. Also, Id Tell You I Love You, But Then I'd Have To Kill You by Ally Carter is also the start to a great series with a female protagonist as well.

There are several great book series to start reading. Some of the most popular series of books are Twilight, Harry Potter, Vampire Diaries, and The Hunger Games.
I'm not so sure because different happen in different books. But most series start with an introduction to the series. I hope it answers your question.
It is at the start, although in the Twilight series books, the prologue is named 'Preface' instead.
