Generally, creating a hypothesis is a no-win situation. The hypothesis you devise must be provable false. Your data will either prove your hypothesis false or it will fail to prove the hypothesis false. You can never prove a proper hypothesis true. Science does not prove truth, it simply discards the false.

Can a hypothesis be proven correct?

In science terms, a hypothesis can only be proven "not wrong". The way it works is that scientists, including the one who stated the hypothesis, try their hardest to demonstrate that the given hypothesis is wrong. If they are successful, then the hypothesis is discarded. If, after many tries, no one can prove the hypothesis is wrong, then it might attain the glorious status of a Theory. As an example, look at the hypothesis of global warming. Almost everyone is running around trying to prove it correct. There are very few following the true scientific process of trying to prove it wrong.

How can finding out that a hypothesis is not correct be useful for scientists?

How was the Flat Earth hypothesis proven wrong?

The Flat Earth hypothesis was proven wrong through various scientific observations and experiments that demonstrated the Earth is round. For example, observations of the Earth's shape during lunar eclipses, satellite imagery, and circumnavigation expeditions provided evidence for the Earth's spherical shape. Additionally, space exploration and photographs of the Earth from space further solidified our understanding of the Earth's round shape.
