you remove the small plastic overdrive tab on the top of the shifter,it should pop off using a small flat head screwdriver, then unscrew the t bar that goes to the overdrive switch, count the turns. Then unscrew the shift knob.

sounds like overdrive clucth pack is burned up. you can just replace the trans to fix it or a cheaper way to go is to replace just the overdrive clutch pack

Just to the left behind the glove box. Its a small white rectangular box. Very easy to get to. My problem is that the overdrive light stays on, hence car wont shift into overdrive. My problem is not the relay, probably not the over drive solenoid, (located on the side of the trans) but the wiring, which has in places the isolation rotted of. I'm trying to fix that now. not much room to work up there. I'm going to try from top first since its the wire that goes up to the shifter box that is in the worse shape. Hope I don't have to drop the trans... good luck on your problem!
