Traditionally, stockings were made of cotton, linen or wool. The finest were made of silk, far beyond the means of most. A picture of some silk stockings made for Queen Victoria is at the link below, along with a history of stockings.
It is as its made, that's how you get nylon thread.
Nylon or polyester
It depends on what the rod is made of. For example, if it's a glass rod the glass will lose electrons to the nylon and become positively charged, and the nylon will gain electrons and become negatively charged. If the rod is made of aluminum or steel, the rod will gain electrons from the nylon and become negatively charged, and the nylon will become positively charged.
Yes...Nylon does meet the definition of a plastic.
It is with a rubber or polyester thin film material, leather ball.
Women's nylon stockings. Also cloth, rope, brushes, and many more items are made from nylon
Nylon is a synthetic fabric made out of petroleum products. It is frequently used to make stockings or rope.
RHT stockings are stockings with reinforced heel & toe. They were the next big thing after seamed stockings and are typically made of nylon. Take a look at www.stockingshq.com for more info.
Toothbrush (1938). Then nylon stockings (1940). Shortly after these two were made almost all nylon production was diverted to parachutes and parachute cord for use during WW2.
Nylon was a valued material so the development of nylon stockings was stopped. Before the war, stockings were made with a seam running down the back, where the two halves of the nylon were attached together to form the stocking. The seam unintentionally emphasized the curve and shape of the leg, so when women could not wear stockings, they reproduced the "seam" often using eyeliner.
it is nylon because nylon is a chemical
Nylon stockings in WW2Nylon stockings first went on sale to the general public in May 1940 and were extremely popular. However, by 1942 demand for nylon for military use (for example for parachutes) was so great that very few stockings were made. It took till March 1946 for Du Pont to satisfy demand in the U.S.
Silk
Nylon being a synthetic fabric made from petroleum was developed in the 1930s as an alternative to silk as in silk stockings, but was unavailable to civilian consumers due to World War II. Developed by the Dupont Chemical company. Nylon is great for its light weight and tensile strength, durability, and resistance to damage. Can be dyed easily, made available in a wide array of colors for consumers. It is the 2nd most used fiber in the United States, since it is so versatile and relatively easy to make. Plus it looks great on women's legs!
Nylon is a synthetic fabric which was invented just before WWII. It is made from oil. Before nylon ladies stocking's were made of silk. So were parachutes. The Japanese controlled the areas where silk comes from, so during the war nylon had to be used to make parachutes, and there was none available to make ladies stockings, or hose. Silk stockings came in pairs, one for each leg, and were fastened at the upper thigh by snaps hanging down from a garter belt, worn at the waist. Silk stockings had a seam up the back of the leg, where the silk was sewed together. When the ladies had ruined the last pair of silk stockings they had, some resorted to painting a line up the back of the leg with makeup, so at a distance it would look like they had on stockings. Ladies wore dresses - it was somewhat indecent to wear trousers or pants or jeans, and going without stockings was something like being half-dressed. Tights did not really become popular until after the war, and then mostly as an item for young girls. I think they were mostly made of cotton at that time.
