Water striders have structures on their leg surfaces that trap air and hence increase the buoyancy of the leg such that the whole insect can float on water. Soap molecules have two ends, one end is hydrophilic (water attracting) while the other end is hydrophobic (not water attracting). Hydrophilic molecules tends to stick to other hydrophilic molecules and hence do not stick to hydrophobic molecules as much. The hydrophobic molecules also tends to be attracted to other hydrophobic molecules.

Water does not intrude into the air filled structures on water strider legs because the legs themselves are also hydrophobic. Water does not stick to the surface of the legs but the hydrophobic end of the soap molecule does. The hydrophobic end of the soap molecules replace the air trapped on the surface of the strider legs while the hydrophilic (water attracting) end completes the bridging of water to the strider leg surface making the strider leg also hydrophilic and losing its buoyancy.

Why does a soap dish float in a bucket of water while a cake soap sinks?

A soap dish is typically designed to float because of its shape and material composition, allowing it to stay on the surface of water. A cake of soap, on the other hand, is more dense and compact, causing it to sink when placed in water.

A cake server is simply used to transfer the cake to a plate. To cut a cake you would use a knife. You can however use a cake server to cut the cake. This is not recomended since you will most probably create a mess.

How do you save wedding cake?

Some couples choose to do the age-old tradition of freezing the top tier of wedding cake to be eaten on the 1st wedding anniversary. That is what my husband and I chose to do. You have to take steps to prevent freezer burn when you store the cake. I recommend doing the following steps for the best quality cake after one year in the freezer: 1. Remove any plastic or breakable decorations from the cake. If the cake is on a plastic separator plate, it is ready to be wrapped. Otherwise, make sure to use a foil-wrapped cake board. The aluminum foil prevents the taste of cardboard from seeping into the cake. 2. Completely cover the cake with plastic wrap. Make sure to cover it airtight. Place it inside a box. Wrap the box with plastic wrap, then wrap with 2 layers of aluminum foil. 3. Defrost the cake 24 hours before you plan to eat the cake by removing it from the freezer and placing it in the refrigerator. In 2-3 hours, remove all wrapping from the cake and place back in the refrigerator. One hour before you serve it, remove it from the refrigerator.

It's probably not a good idea to bake the plastic trinket in the cake. Instead, poke it in somewhere after the cake has baked and cooled and cover the hole with glaze and colorful sprinkles.
