The Gravity Model is where people may be attracted to a certain place because of its mass.
An example of this could be migration of a person to New York. New York has a very large population and attracts hundreds of people every year for migration purposes. This person could have started in a small town in Alabama, but wants to pursue a successful career on Broadway in New York. He will most probably encounter a slightly larger town than his own and live there for several years. As his income and state of well-being increases, he will eventually move to New York, proving the effect of the Gravity Model.
Many times people will stop at the second city, as they may be happy with their situation. For instance, if this man started in Arizona and then stopped in Chicago on his journey, he might have found a very nice theater troupe in the city and decides to live there rather than continue to New York.
