There does seem to be a pattern showing that the richer countries are in the north, and the poorer countries in the south. While there are some clear exceptions (Australia) it does seem that North America, Europe and Japan are far economically superior to South America, Africa and the Pacific. Perhaps it is because the people of the European region were among the first to develop superior technology and general civilisation. They also introduced these traits to other countries, particularly northern (U.S. and such). This is the only possible reason I can think of. If there are any additions to this, they would be greatly appreciated.
Richer North = Europe and Australasia and North America. Poorer South = Africa, Asia, South America
Poorer countries tend to have less robust infrastructure, which can increase their vulnerability to flooding. They may lack proper drainage systems, flood barriers, and early warning systems. Additionally, impoverished populations often live in more flood-prone areas due to limited resources and land options.
The line that separates the richer north from the poorer south is called the "Mason-Dixon Line." It historically marked the border between the Northern and Southern states in the United States along the lines of slavery and agriculture.
A country is considered richer if it has a high GDP per capita, strong economic growth, low levels of poverty and inequality, and a high standard of living. Conversely, a country is considered poorer if it has a low GDP per capita, limited economic opportunities, high poverty rates, and low standards of living.
As of current data, countries with a higher GDP per capita than the US include Qatar, Luxembourg, Singapore, and Switzerland. It is important to note that GDP per capita measures the average economic output per person in a country.
the development gap divides the richer (the richer north) and poorer (the poorer south) countries.
