Using a glass cutter (carbide blade) score the mirror along the back side and carefully snap the cut portion loose. This does require some practice and much care.*Glass cutting can injure you and requires adult supervision.
Yes, diamonds can cut glass, because diamonds are harder than glass.
Cut through glass is different from scaring the surface of glass. People who cut glass use a diamond-tipped tool to score the surface of the glass, then they tap the glass with a rubber mallet, which fractures the glass along the line of the score. You could use a diamond-tipped saw to cut through glass, especially if it was a thick plate.
If you want to try it yourself, take a good quality piece of clean glass (preferably plate) and get a can of spray metallic paint - aluminum, or the like. Cover one side with even, light strokes, until it is completely opaque. Let it dry, turn it over, and you should have a fairly good mirror.
Use fine sandpaper or a sharpening stone, whet stone, to remove the sharp edges being careful not to scratch the reflective backing. This will also strengthen the glass/mirror by reducing faults where breaks can occur.
To cut a mirror into different shapes, you can use a glass cutter to score the mirror along the desired shape. Then, carefully break the mirror along the scored line using pliers or a glass cutter. Be sure to wear safety goggles and gloves to protect yourself from sharp edges.

NO. -That could be very dangerous. Many mirrors are special glass and need to be cut with special tools. Take it to an auto glass shop for advice.
I expect that you can buy the mirror online but I had mine fixed at a local glass shop. They purchased or cut a mirror to fit and they glued it over the cracked one.
If you are familiar with a glass cutter, use that to resize the mirror. My best suggestion would be take it to a glass shop and let them do it. They can bevel the edges and its a whole lot safer.
If it's just the mirror glass itself - go to any good glass shop and they can cut you a piece to fit, and install it with the proper adhesive.
I took a fillet knife and ran it behind the mirror to cut the glue. Advance Auto sold the right replacement. Apply glue strips and press mirror on.
Glass and Holder??? Glass...Yes you can buy JUST the glass see www.burncoinc.com (I believe you need part# 3189 or 3515) they will not sell too you direct but find a glass shop that sells these. DO NOT goto a glass shop and have them 'CUT' you a mirror for this!!!! a side view mirror has to be auto mirror (FMVSS 101) it can not be house hold mirror. Holder...as for any parts that are broken inside the mirror head assembly, the entire mirror head has to be replaced. you can buy this at a dealership (very $$) or an after market supplier like www.Directauto.com ($$ not so bad) or an autowreckers (cheapest option) hope this helps Glass and Holder??? A synonym for "looking glass" is mirror.
There isn't much you can make with a mirror that is cracked. Depends on the size of the mirror and the crack, but you could cut the mirror with a glass cutter and make a new mirror out of the old one. Cut the best part out and frame it as a new mirror.
On my 1998 E320 the glass had cracked or something and the light differentiating fluid had leaked out leaving me with two images. The dealer wanted $450 for the mirror. I carefully cut out a piece of cardboard the size I wanted and had a local glass shop cut a mirror. I attached it with double stick white cushy tape and caulking onto the existing mirror. Cost $20.
If you are referring to the actual mirror-glazed portion of the assembly itself - - While Honda DOES sell the replacement part it is MUCH less expensive to go to a glass shop and have them cut and fit the piece themselves. They have the equipment to cut the glass to the proper shape and should have the proper adhesive necessary to mount it.
