The salaries of principal players in orchestras can vary based on several factors, including the demand for certain instruments, the size of the section, and historical precedent. The Trumpet often has a prominent role in orchestral music, leading to higher compensation. However, the principal Flute and viola players may earn more due to their unique roles, specialized techniques, or greater demand for their sound in orchestral compositions. Ultimately, these variations reflect a combination of musical tradition and the market dynamics of orchestral employment.

When you write a ratio you have to pay attention to what it says in the question. If it said..... The fraction of trumpet players in the band is 7/15. the rest are clarinet players. What is the ratio of claranet players to trumpet players? you would have to look at the words. it said.... claronet to trumpet players....... so if there are 7 out of 15 how many are left? the ratio is 8/7.
If you mean getting signed as a professional player, it's difficult. There are thousands and thousands of aspiring trumpet players out there, and most of them aren't as good as they think they are. For symphony orchestras, you almost always have to audition, and many symphonies don't have regular audtions. For instance, the trumpet section in the symphony in my city has been the same for 5 or 6 years, and the principal trumpet player has been the same player for 20 years.
