The Dawes Act was an effort to make assimilation the government's official policy. The aim was to "Americanize" the Native Americans , cultivating in them the desire to own property and to farm.

If not, we'd all still be living in Kansa City, so personally, I am very grateful to those hardy pioneer men and women who eventually made it possible for us to expand to West Coast. Those that lingered in the Plains states are still very important to our food supply to this day . I salute each and every one of them.
