I was diagnosed with a pinhole/stenotic cervix two years ago. My OB-GYN stated that it was most likely congenital, given my medical history. Pregnancy was not an impossibility, but it was less likely to come about naturally. (In 10 yrs. of marriage using only natural Birth Control, I had never become pregnant-- but I cannot count this as scientific proof of anything.) In an infertility study done at the University Hospital in Groningen, Netherlands, 24 women out of a control group of 850 were diagnosed with pinhole cervix. Of these 24 women, nine were determined to have been exposed to DES (diethylstilbestrol) in utero, and four had partners with very low sperm counts. None of these thirteen women became pregnant. Of the remaining eleven women, seven were able to get pregnant either naturally or by intrauterine AIH despite the pinhole-cervix diagnosis. The study concluded that provided there was no history of DES exposure to compromise fertility, "a pin-hole cervical os....has probably no influence on fertility". This means you have a short cervix. I am 22 weeks and my cervix is also 2.1 cm and I have been ordered to bed rest for the remainder of my pregnancy and I may also have to get a cerclage which is a type of stitch they use for extra support for your baby. Having a short cervix during pregnancy increases the chance of preterm labor and even misscarriage. The farther along in your pregnancy the more weight and pressure on your cervix
It is rare for a woman to become pregnant at 49 but it possible. If a woman is still releasing eggs and having intercourse, she can become pregnant. Generally after menopause a female won't get pregnant but it's possible.
