It is possible to be a carrier of the disease if they recently received Swine Flu and they don't know about it yet. But otherwise the doctors are even trying to vaccinate pregnant women.

FURTHER QUESTION:
I was reading an article by Richard Ruhling, MD, MPH, Washington, DC on the internet and he stated:

"The flu shot helps spread the flu. The shot contains something called attenuated virus. Attenuated basically means half-killed. The shot has to evoke an immune response and therefore has to have some form of viral activity to it to stimulate that immune response. The theory is to give you a tiny dose of the flu so your body will build immunity to it. Anyone who thinks that they are not contagious after getting a flu shot is woefully mistaken. Most of the package inserts will even tell you that you may exhibit mild flu symptoms for a few days after getting a shot. There are also a percentage of people who receive the shot and get very sick." (From: Leading Cause of Death: Prescription Drugs, by Richard Ruhling, MD, MPH)

Yet there are many voices saying people, especially medical personnel should get the shots so they won't be carriers. Are there any major studies on this question?

Who generally gets Swine Flu?

Anyone who has not had a flu vaccination each year since the pandemic and/or has not already had illness from the exact strain of flu as the pandemic swine flu. The annual flu vaccine has contained the H1N1/09 swine flu since the first regular flu season (in 2010 - 2011) after the discovery of the new strain in 2009. In the 2009 - 2010 flu season, a second vaccination against swine flu was required to be taken, in addition to the regular seasonal flu vaccination, to be immune. See the related question below for a list of those mostly likely to get, and have complications from, the 2009 swine flu (if they have not been vaccinated).

Are the flu and Swine Flu the same?

No, Swine Flu is just one strain of the many flu viruses. Flu is an abbreviation for influenza. So Swine Flu is a type of flu, but all flu is not the swine flu, there are other kinds.

How common is Swine Flu?

Less common now as more people are being vaccinated to prevent it. Since the pandemic was declared over, there are still some isolated outbreaks around the world and it is one of the more common types of flu expected to be circulating still in the 2011-2012 flu season.
