I got my braces on February 9,2011 and it didn't hurt when they where putting it on. But when I came home after, it started hurting. Really pain the first day, and the pain lasted for like 4 days for me maybe because your Dentist will say "If your mouth is giving pain, use the stuff you use to take care for headaches". It worked for me.

you will not look funny with them. it might take a few days to get use to them but they do not look funny on people.

No the only time it hurts is when they tighten and just take Tylenol for that. Or if you get hit in the mouth. Other than that it doesn't really bother you. You will love the results when they take them off!!!! The first time you get braces you will feel pain for between 3-7 days depending on the person (if it goes on for longer than a week contact your othodontist). During this time it will often be difficult to chew food and your teeth might start hurting as the wire is moving them and your body isn't used to this. After the 3-7 days your body will become accustomed to it and you will often not feel it. This is why it will hurt when they re-tighten them, your body will need to get used to it again :) Had my braces on yesterday and i'm unable to eat solid foods :(
