that muscle that lets you straiten your ankle is called you gastrocnemius. It is in the back of your calf and connects from the upper end of your femur(upper leg) , backside to the back of tarsal bones(ankle bones) but i don't know if that is what you are asking. hope it helps :)
The technique will vary a bit depending on the style, but the basic back kick is to bring up the heel to knee level and thrust out behind you with it, the heel being the contact point. It is a very powerful kick, using the largest muscle in the body, the gluteous maximus.

The Achilles tendon is the largest tendon in the body and attaches the calf muscles. mainly the gastrocnemius and soleus to the calcanueus (heel).
The calcaneus (heel bone) forms the back of your foot. A tendon attaches the gastrocnemius and soleus (calf) muscles to the heel bone.
The Achilles tendon attaches the calf muscles (gastrocnemius and soleus) to the heel bone (calcaneus).
Some muscles in your leg are hamstrings, quads, and gastrocnemius*. *The largest muscle in your calf muscle. It helps you extend you foot, raise your heel, and assists you in bending your knee.
