Not a lot of really scientific research has been done on Betel Nut usage, which surprises me as it's so popular in the far east. What we do know is: * It trashes the teeth and gums. * There is a strong possibility that it's pretty carcinogenic. 50% of the cancers in countries where Betel Nut chewing is popular (India, Vietnam, etc.) are cancers of the mouth. * Its stimulant effect may induce cardiac problems. * There are addiction problems associated with Betel Nut usage (which may or may not be a major health problem).
