Stressor
Biological stressor: Illness or injury that affects the body's ability to function properly. Life change stressor: Divorce or moving to a new location, causing significant changes in daily routine and social support.
The body adapts to the presence of the stressor.
During the stage of stress, the body enters a phase known as resistance, where it adapts to the ongoing presence of the stressor. In this stage, physiological responses, such as increased hormone production and heightened alertness, help to maintain a level of homeostasis despite the stressor. However, prolonged exposure can lead to resource depletion and may eventually result in fatigue or burnout if the stressor persists. Ultimately, while the body can initially cope, enduring stress without relief can have detrimental effects on health.
