The muscle that compresses the urinary bladder during micturition is the detrusor muscle. This smooth muscle layer surrounds the bladder and contracts to expel urine from the bladder into the urethra. The contraction of the detrusor muscle is primarily controlled by the autonomic nervous system, specifically the parasympathetic division.
Smooth muscles are usually found (1. in the walls of blood vessels; (2. around hollow organs such as the urinary bladder; (3. and in layers around the respiratory, Circulatory, Digestive, and Reproductive tracts.
It is used in the treatment of overactive bladder, with symptoms of urinary urge incontinence. Solifenacin is used to treat overactive bladder with symptoms such as urinary incontinence, urinary frequency as well as urinary urgency. It reduces muscle spasms of the urinary tract and bladder.
A sphincter is basically a ring shape of muscle usually at the end of a hollow organ in the body such as the bladder or encircling an opening from the body such as the anus. In its contracted state it will hold back the contents and when voluntarily relaxed itr will release them. The bladder (part of the urinary system) is controlled by a sphincter.
