Technically, there is no maximum (ceiling) dose for any of the pure opioid agonists - the dose depends on the opioid tolerance of the person taking the drug. remember that all opioids are NOT cross-tolerant... for example, oxycodone and morphine do not produce complete tolerance to each other...

however, hydrocodone presents an interesting situation among the opioid analgesics since it is RARELY (if at all in certain countries, like the US) encountered without acetaminophen (Hydrocodone/APAP, major brand name Vicodin) or another simple, non-opioid analegesic (Hydrocodone/ibuprofen is another, major brand name Vicoprofen)... ibuprofen rarely causes overdose problems (in order to have a serious problem, you're looking at a dose of 400mg per kilogram of body weight).

acetaminophen (called paracetamol outside North America - APAP as a generic term everywhere), on the other hand, happens to not only cause overdose at relatively small doses (6000mg - 6g in a day - that's 12 vicodin... each vicodin contains 5mg hydrocodone and 500mg APAP... each vicodin es contains 7.5mg hydrocodone/750mg APAP - that's EIGHT pills in a day to cause an acetaminophen overdose that will cause liver toxicity - not enough for death, but after enough time, no liver = no living... as far as single doses go, it's about 9000mg/9g - 18 vicodin/12 vicodin es), but results in a horrible, excruciatingly painful death by hepatic (liver) failure. when your liver fails...

(as it will with an untreated acetaminophen overdose - IV infusion of N-Acetylcysteine within 8 hours of ingestion is pretty much the cutoff point for saving your liver completely - and symptoms of the overdose usually don't show up until 24 hours after the drugs are ingested... so if you THINK you've taken too much - and you don't feel any symptoms of opioid overdose - like breathing problems, GO TO THE ER AND TELL THEM YOU TOOK TOO MUCH TYLENOL - after that, it's pretty much dependent on your own body's handling of the overdose... if you've taken too much and it's the opioid that's causing the overdose, you'll know right away and you need to have a few IV injections of naloxone - brand name narcan... until all of the hydrocodone and hydromorphone - hydrocodone metabolizes into hydromorphone, among other things - are out of your system completely. naloxone has a very short half-life... shorter than any opioid that it can reverse. it MUST be given repeatedly.) ...the only treatment is a transplant.

in short, if you have no tolerance... don't go above 10mg in a single dose if you want to be perfectly safe from the opioid effects... if your opioid tolerance is through the roof - but not with hydrocodone, do some research to find out the level of cross-tolerance and dosage equivalencies between the other opioids. if your hydrocodone tolerance is through the roof - and that's why you're asking this... just remember to do one of two things - don't go above 9000mg/9g of APAP (check the APAP content of the pills) in one dosing, or learn to do cold water extraction of the hydrocodone from the pills... you can find the methods for this online using Google, but unless you have a decent knowledge of chemistry, i wouldn't try it... because you will not remove the majority of the APAP correctly and/or you will end up with zero hydrocodone. I'm not going to try to talk you out of taking it - do what you want. just be safe.

Is hydrocodone harmful to your body rather than percocet's?

hydrocodone is weaker then oxycodone(active narcotic in percocet) But it is no more harmful. It is the apap that the mix with the tabs that is liver toxic in higher doses

What body systems does oxycodone affect?

Lortab has hydrocodone and acetomenophen and is usually where everybody gets hydrocodone from. Large doses of acetomenophen can destroy your liver.

Which is stronger hydrocodone 750mg or oxycodone 350mg?

The Hydrocodone M357 tablet is a 5/500. The Oxycodone 512 tablet is a 5/325. Oxycodone is a stronger painkiller than Hydrocodone. Not only is the Oxycodone tablet stronger, but it would also be better for your liver since it contains less Acetaminophen (Tylenol).

How many mg of codeine does m357 have?

It's not codeine, it's hydrocodone. And I know of 5mg and 7.5mg doses, with 500 and 325 mgs of APAP; but I don't know if those are the only doses.

How many Tylenol 3 equals 20 mg of hydrocodone?

It just depends on how what dosage you are prescribed. If it is hydrocodone 5/325 then there is 325 mg of acetaminophen (Tylenol). If it is hydrocodone 5/500 then there is 500 mg of acetaminophen (Tylenol). The 5 is the milligrams of hydrocodone in the pill and the 10 is the milligram of the hydrocodone

What are the benefits of oxycodone rather than hydrocodone?

The only difference is the potency of the drug - Oxycodone is a stronger opiate than Hydrocodone is. For a pain patient, the decision to move to a stronger drug is usually based on the lower strength drug not being able to do the job in current doses, or if the patient has to take more to deal with the pain. Fewer doses of a drug to deal with a problem is always more preferable to having increase the dose of one that isn't working as well.

Can you take tamazepam and an hour later take hydrocodone?

The only problem in taking NyQuil and later hydrocodone, is that hydrocodone is almost never prescribed by it self. If it contains acetaminophen, precautions MUST be taken to avoid a acetaminophen overdose.

Can vicoprofen and Adderall be taken together?

Vicoprofen (hydrocodone and tylenol) can be taken with adderall is reasonable doses. If taken recreationally, in other words, to get "high", the risk of a fatality increases. Adderall increases desire for certain things. If you are addicted to Vicoprofen and you take a lare amounth of adderall, say (30-60mg) your first time, the desire for large doses of hydrocodone with increase severely. This is not a proven statement but has been noticed in smokers, drug addicts, and anxiety patients.

Is trimadol a narcotic?

no. the medication Ultram (tramadol hcl) is non-narcotic; even though they have the same effect as hydrocodone if taken in high doses.

What would happen if you take Adderall Drink wine Then take Hydrocodone?

Taking uppers and downers together can give you a heart attack. Taking uppers (cocaine) and two downers (alcohol and hydrocodone) increases the risk.

Are hydrocodones a barbiturate or an opiate?

Benzodiazepines are drugs with sedative qualities used to treat muscle spasms, convulsions, anxiety, and alcohol withdrawal. This is not the class of drugs that hydrocodone falls under. Hydrocodone is a opiate agonist, antitussive used in the treatment of mild to moderate pain. The drug is considered to have similar sedative qualities in larger doses, but the recreational use is deterred due to the high content of acetaminophen.

I am currently prescribed Lortab 10 for lower back pain I was wondering the rating of the different hydrocodone medications Examples such as vicodin lortab loracet and etcetera from weak to strong?

Vicodin is probably the strongest. ------------------------------------------ Vicodin is not the strongest of the medications you asked about. Lortab, Vicodin, and Lortab are all brand names (made by different pharmaceutical companies) that contain hydrocodone bitartrate and acetaminophen. They are all available in the same dosage as the Lortab 10 mg, precribed for you. The drug (Lortab 10) prescribed for you contains 10 mg of hydrocodone. Any other hydrocodone/APA (acetaminophen = Tylenol) drug that contains 10 mg of hydrocodone is identical in strength, as far as hydrocodone is concerned. Norco is a brand name for a hydrocodone drug, and the only one I'm aware of that contains less acetaminophen (APAP) than the otherse. If it turns out your back pain ends up to be a chronic problem, a lower dosage of APAP will be important, in regard to saving you from liver damage. Hydrocodone does not obliterate intolerable chronic pain. If you're lucky, it will take the edge off. If this is the boat you find yourself in, ask you doctor to prescribe Norco (or its generic equivalent) which contains the same amount of hydrocodone, with less (liver damaging) APAP. All pharmaceutical companies that manufacture pain meds containing hydrocodone make them in different doses. So, regardless of the brand name, a drug containing hydrocodone can contain either 2.5 mg, or 5 mg, or 7.5 mg, or 10 mg of hydrocodone. Check out rxlist.com, where you can search for a drug by name (hydrocodone) and it will show you all the brand names of drugs containing hydrocodone, along with the doses available, and the amount of APAP included.
