The monotheistic religions, Judaism and its children Christianity and Islam, have been the source of religious warfare. Other religions were tolerant of each other as they realised that their gods were the same - just with different names. The monotheists felt the burning need to impose their god on others, and to make it worse, different sects within those religions aimed to impose their beliefs within their religion as well. Its effects are still with us today.
